
2nd June 2026, I briefly visited the Royal Military Canal in the coastal town of Hythe in Kent. It was a sunny early evening and the sun was shining straight down a short section of the 28mile canal, built during 1803-1805 to oppose a perceived invasion of the UK by Napoleon.
