On 2nd August 2014 Birmingham’s Chamberlain Square hosted an art installation in memory of the anonymous fallen during World War One.
The memorial event marked 100 years since the start of World War One.

Created by Brazilian artist Néle Azevedo it featured 5,000 small ice figures that members of the public were asked to place around the square.

The sculptures, created to melt in the sun, symbolized the transience of life and the common man.

The project was part of the 2014 World War One commemorations, curated by Birmingham Hippodrome.
