2nd May 2026, I went to the Shelsley Walsh Speed Hillclimb event in Worcestershire.
It is the oldest still operating motorsport venue in the world, first used in 1905.

The great late Murray Walker made his commentating debut here in 1948.

It is a short track of 1000 yards (914 metres), but with a significant elevation change over its length, 328 feet (100 m).
The hill record time is 22.37 seconds (Sean Gould, 2021) in a Gould GR59 4 litre Judd V8.
The track has a great paddock area and trackside spectator path to the top of the hill, with various seating areas and refreshments along the way. There is also a great cafe and plenty of toilets.

Even the car park is worth seeing with lots of modern and classic cars that people have brought along.

I started off by looking around the paddock and the amazing array of competitors cars including a whole section of Lotus cars of many types, my favourite being the self-built Team Lewis Special.

After one of the runs up the hill a parade of these came slowly back down the hill to the paddock.

I spent a little time at the start line to grab some shots and then walked up the path, stopping at various points to get photos of the cars blasting up the hill. Below are some examples.

Oops!, one of the cars had a minor crash, losing a front wheel and clipping the bank, the driver was fine but had to go looking for the wheel in the adjacent field, I’m not sure if it was found!

The marshalls, as always, did a great job of checking the driver was ok and then quickly clearing the car and debris from the track.

I went back down the path getting more photos of the racing and then spent a bit more time in the paddock.

My favourite car on the day has to be the gorgeous Hersham and Walton Motors (HWM) Aston Martin!

I highly recommend spending a day at the hillclimb!
